Safeguarding at Totton College is fully incorporated within Nacro’s safeguarding framework. The safety and wellbeing of our students and anyone accessing our services is central to everything we do. Nacro is committed to ensuring that all individuals are protected from abuse, harm and neglect, and that their health, wellbeing and human rights are upheld. Safeguarding is a shared responsibility for all Nacro employees, volunteers and contractors.

Nacro maintains a strong governance structure with clearly defined safeguarding roles and responsibilities across the organisation. Our approach follows best practice, including safer recruitment processes, detailed pre‑employment screening, and enhanced DBS checks. This ensures we recruit staff who have the right values, skills and experience to keep people safe. You can read Nacro’s full safeguarding statement here.

Our safeguarding policies, including those relating to adult safeguarding and child protection, ensure that Totton College provides a safe and supportive environment for all students and those engaged with our services. We safeguard against a wide range of issues, including:

  • Bullying
  • Domestic violence
  • Teenage relationship abuse
  • Female genital mutilation
  • Child sexual exploitation
  • Radicalisation
  • Trafficking, exploitation and modern slavery
  • Forced marriage, honour‑based violence/killing
  • Gang violence and grooming
  • Online safety, including cyberbullying and internet grooming

Prevent Duty: Preventing Violent and Non‑Violent Extremism

Nacro has an up‑to‑date Prevent Policy as part of its duty to safeguard those using its services. The policy sets out how we identify and respond to concerns relating to extremism or radicalisation. Trustees, Executive Leadership Team and Safeguarding Leads are responsible for ensuring that Prevent risk assessments and action plans are implemented in each area.

Get in touch

Our wellbeing team is available to offer confidential help and advice to any students who need to talk about anything from relationship or health issues to finance or housing problems.
